United States: In the latest report, a case of measles has been noted in New Hampshire, where the health officials said that the person who was a resident of the state, had international travel, and came back to the US in June month.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the person in question visited several locations while being infected, thereby potentially harming others coming in contact with him. 

The DHHS confirmed that the international traveler reportedly tested positive after coming back to the US from a visit to Hanover, Germany, in late June.

Moreover, as per the officials, a confirmed case of measles was also reported from Vermont, having a traveling history as well, as wmur.com reported. 

Advisory by health officials 

Officials confirmed that the New Hampshire resident was not vaccinated. Officials confirmed that the New Hampshire resident was not vaccinated for measles. 

Experts explained watched other unvaccinated people, as well as those with weakened immune systems and children who are too young to be vaccinated, and came in contact with the resident could be at a major risk of being infected with measles. 

Moreover, if anyone is unsure about their vaccination status, he/she is advised to report it to their healthcare providers. 

Benefits of preventive treatments – Experts 

As per the official report, those who are not protected or are susceptible to potential exposure to measles might benefit from the preventive measures, depending upon the date of their potential exposure, as wmur.com reported. 

Moreover, those who are majorly immunocompromised and vaccinated against the disease would also get the benefit of preventive antibody treatment. As the experts say, vaccination might not be as effective for them. 

According to Dr. Benjamin Chan, the state epidemiologist, “Measles is a highly contagious but preventable disease,” and “The two-dose measles vaccine provides lifelong protection in most people, and it is the best protection against measles and complications of infection. Anybody who is not vaccinated is strongly encouraged to talk with their health care provider about completing the vaccine series,” as wmur.com reported. 

As per the official reports, the last measles case was reported in 2019 in New Hampshire.
