United States: In recent years, Weight-loss solutions have evolved with injectable medications that target obesity. During this time, consumers have become familiar with products containing Semaglutide, which shows promise in weight-loss goals.

More about the news

A Semaglutide drug, Ozempic, was initially developed for treating type two diabetes. When administered in higher doses, it showed impressive weight-loss effects, as thestarpress.com reported.

As per the US Food and Drug Administration, Ozempic regulates blood sugar levels while prompting the body to produce more insulin.

Moreover, it also works by signaling a part of the brain’s feelings of fullness and reducing appetite. Presently, the FDA has approved three Semaglutide injections, which have secured FDA approval.

Types of Semaglutide injections available

Firstly, Wegovy is an injection that received approval for weight loss purposes. And Ozempic is initially recommended for diabetes, it is stated on their website that it is not a drug used for weight loss.

However, these newly introduced pharmaceuticals are gaining traction in the market, as healthcare professionals and consumers are grappling with questions about their safety and long-term implications, as people are also gaining lasting results.

What more do experts state?

According to Dr. Srinivasu Kesa, a practitioner in Indianapolis, MD, Wellness & Med Spa, whose motive is to provide a “‘one-stop'” facility for non-surgical aesthetics, medical weight loss treatment, and more.

He also specializes in obesity medicine and serves on the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

He said, “We encourage our patients to make lifestyle changes from day one,” and that’s our No. 1 priority. We go through with them their eating habits and lifestyle—even how much time they spend on their cellphones.”

He added, “We first encourage this and then advise the patient to take the medication as a supplement to these changes,” as thestarpress.com reported

Concerns against weight-loss injection

Vpnverns against weight-loss injection medications for weight-loss treatment is to regain weight after receiving treatment.

An experiment conducted in 2022 in the Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism journal examined over 1,961 participants who had been taking Semaglutide for one year and three months.

After that, they were taken off the medication to see what would happen with their weight.

Among all these, 327 individuals regained 11.7 percent of their lost weight. The reports suggest that if the participants lost 50 pounds, they gained about 5 pounds.

Kesa said that, as per his experience with patients, significant weight retention after going off the drug is uncommon.

He added, “They don’t gain the weight back if they make lifestyle changes,” “For example, I have a patient who came to me weighing 430 pounds. When they got off the injections, they were at their target weight of 230 pounds. Now, they weigh and maintain 270 pounds. He gained a little bit back, but still, he is a lot healthier than he was before.”
